The village processes

The environment is a concern taken into account in the mountains

Les Gets has been well aware of the importance of sustainable development for the past several years and keeps working for it.  The village takes certain initiatives to help preserve it’s environment.

The goal is to increase not only the client’s awareness, but also the businesses’, the shop keepers’, and the accomadation providers’ awareness as well.  It is very important that everyone realizes that the mountains are a fragile but precious ecosystem and that we must protect them.

Environmental accreditations

The Lift-Operating Company (Sagets) received the ISO 14004 accreditation in 2008. In pursuing the environmental pledge, it is now the Tourist office that received its environmental accreditation the 18th of November 2010.

The Les Gets 18-hole golf course is the first golf in France that has obtained this environmental accreditation, following the actions made towards the environment.

The medium term objective is to encourage the businesses, shop keepers and accommodation providers in Les Gets to do the same by involving them in future initiatives to protect the local environment.

Green transportation:

The Balad'Aulps Bus, free shuttle buses and a semi-pedestrian village center.

A transportation service named the «Balad’Aulps Bus» runs everyday around the ‘Aulps’ valley, going to the main tourist attractions. The exceptionally low price (1,50€ per journey) aims at encouraging visitors and locals to use public transportation rather than their own cars. This service, which has been a remarkable success, completes the regular bus service (Thonon/Cluses).

A night shuttle has been launched in winter 2012. From 6.30 to 11pm, with only one number ans for 2€/pers (free under 12 years old), people could enjoy the nightlife in the village, without using their car.

Provided with a spacious central square, partly covered to allow recreational and cultural events, and with a main street equiped with wide sidewalks, the village center has become a pleasant and safe area, with very little space left for cars. To get there….nothing could be easier: catch the little train or the free shuttle buses from any surrounding hamlets.

Vegetable garden in the big outdoors

True to its eco-tourism philosophy, Les Gets has transformed itself into an alpine vegetable garden - on a big scale.  This innovative concept, bringing together nature and wood, comes from a communal desire and the wish to preserve Les Gets’ character and traditions.

The ancestors of today’s inhabitants worked the earth, growing their own produce and cultivating fruit and vegetables.

These are strong values which, still today, unite the local population behind one powerful slogan : “Where wood is King, nature is Queen”.
With the show-stopping vegetable garden as the focal point, the concept will evolve through different weekends -  centered around the theme of wood, nature, health, and flavors.  All of which will roll out week-by-week in conjunction with other summer activities.
