The projects

ClimAlp’ Tour

Les Gets plays an important role in  Europe’s « ClimAlp Tour » project (Global warming and it’s impact on tourism in the Alpes).  The projects’ main goals are :

  • An analysis  of global warmings’ impacts on the tourist destinations in the Alpes.
  • An analysis of each destinations’ strengths and weaknesses and its’ vulnerability in global warming.
  • A proposal of strategies in managing tourism and global warming in Les Gets.

Firstly, several things were done:

  • Collecting information on global warming, on Les Gets, and on how adaptable Les Gets is as a tourism resort.
  • Collecting people in Les Gets’ point of view about global warming and tourism.

Secondly, this analysis will allow the resort to adapt itself according to the scientific data collected.

This project is beeing done by 16 associates in 6 different alpine countries : Germany, Austria, France, Italy, Slovenia, and Switzerland.  They all work in collaboration with various resorts in each country, especially with Les Gets.  The partner that we work with in France is "l’Institut de la Montagne – Université de Savoie", but we are also in close collaboration with « Mountain Riders », "Rhône-Alpes Tourisme" (MITRA), and "France Montagnes".

The Toubieres Educational Circuit

The Chablais region has joined the European Geoparc programme, a UNESCO initiative. The Geoparc is an area with a rich geological heritage and a site of ecological, historical and cultural interest. Holiday makers and locals alike can come to the site to learn about the local geology. The Georoute circuit is an important part of the Geoparc. It is a walking route linking 20 of the most interesting geological sites where visitors can learn about the geology specific to the region, as they walk.

Les Gets is an site with a rich geological identity. The Toubieres educational circuit will be located close to the wet lands by the Lac des Ecoles and will be made next autumn 2012.  Guided by information panels installed along the walking path, the whole family can enjoy this activity free of charge and learn about the geology specific to this interesting area.
